Port Aransas Fishing – Great For Many Reasons
I have done my fair share of deep sea fishing and one of if not my favorite spots is Port Aransas fishing in Texas. The fishing there in the Gulf of Mexico can be amazing. I have caught everything from sailfish to redfish to tuna to tarpon there. It is deep sea fishing at its best.
It would be ideal if you had your own boat and a way of getting it to Port Aransas. You may also book a charter. There are countless chartering opportunities at Port Aransas. Regardless of if you have your own boat or charter one there are a few basic things you need to know about deep sea fishing.
Deep sea fishing is much more involved then what you are used to out on a lake or river. You will be out on the open water. You will be doing battle with fish that sometimes weigh more then you. Your rod and reel must be designed for deep sea fishing. The line you use will be much stronger then regular fishing line. Everything down to the hooks you use will be different.
Ok you are set up and have all the proper equipment. To actually catch the fish you will want to use one or two of the most popular methods to deep sea fish. The first one is trawling. This involves attaching fishing lines to the back of your boat and pulling them behind you. There is not much skill involved here but you will catch fish if you know where to go and use the right lures.
The other method is chumming. This involves throwing buckets of chum (dead fish parts and blood) into the water to attract game fish. You will then throw your line near the chum in hopes of attracting a bite.
Once you have a fish on the line, regardless of what method you used, the fight is on. Expect a much tougher fight then what your average lake or river fish would give you. Plenty of deep sea fish will fight you for hours, are you ready?
