Travel to Virginia Beach and Experience a Deep Sea or Striped Bass Fishing Charter Trip
Inshore fishing on Virginia Beach charter boats may include trips for striped bass, sea bass, and both red and black drum while offshore fishing charters target tuna, sharks, dolphin, billfish and other species. The area is world famous for its saltwater fishing.
One well known fisherman is Captain Keith Harlan who fishes the Mega Bite out of Virginia Beach. He has fished local waters from the Eastern Shore, Chesapeake Bay, and Virginia Beach to Cape Hatteras for over 30 years. Captain Keith’s vast fishing experience also includes the waters of Barbados, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Key West.
In the summer months, offshore fishing from Virginia Beach is excellent. Captain Keith described Virginia offshore fishing saying, “Nothing is etched in stone with fishing around here but chasing yellowfin tuna thru much of the summer is our main activity”. These tuna like deeper water for the most part, often being caught in water from 30 to 100 fathoms. “We watch the satellite shots to get a general idea of how far north or south the tuna are” explained the Captain.
Fishing spots include the Norfolk Canyon, Cigar, Weather Buoy, Wayne’s World and others. These hotspots range up to 75 miles out of Rudee Inlet. In addition to yellowfin tuna, anglers catch bluefin, bigeye, skipjack and longfin albacore tuna, dolphin fish, wahoo, billfish and sharks.
Of interest to many anglers are the trips that reach the Norfolk Canyon. Just before reaching the canyon walls are slopes that are often very productive areas. Near the canyon walls, the bottom becomes steeper and rockier. Fish congregate along the drop offs to catch food that is caught in the hard running current. Along the edges are lobster traps which are marked by orange buoys or “lobster balls”. The buoys attract dolphin fish which in turn attract the larger marlin, swordfish and sharks which feed on them heavily. A trip by a buoy can be uneventful, or one or more lines might be attacked by mahi mahi, tuna, marlin or other fish.
Late August and September often feature the best fishing with anglers seeing larger numbers of tuna as well as an influx of wahoo and bull dolphin. Offshore fishing continues into October, when windy weather and falling water temperatures make fishing less productive.
After the offshore season winds down, Virginia anglers enjoy excellent striped bass fishing. Known locally as rockfish, these delicious fish migrate down the East Coast and congregate in the lower Chesapeake Bay and coastal waters from November thru March. Anglers sometimes catch monster rockfish, exceeding 50 lbs. The Virginia state record rockfish has been broken many times recently, with some of the biggest fish being caught out of Virginia Beach Virginia.
These beautiful gamefish love cold and windy weather and feed in immense schools along the coast. Local charter boat captains such as Captain Keith of the Mega Bite keep watch on local fishing and are usually able to find the fish reliably when a winter weather window of opportunity becomes available.

Guilin Travel Li River Cruise Experience
Guilin … I have just arrived by aircraft and, I am able to be able to breathe! Xi’an was impressive for the saga of the Terracotta Warriors etc. but it was extremely not easy to breathe … the climate in Xi’an plays a huge role in the air pollution, also I discovered a low count of trees, by watching, al ot of dust … we require trees replanted here (Xi’an) to hold down loose earth …
In Guilin though, I got to feel fresh air, Lovable elderly ladies saying few words in English to put up for sale their fruits, books, post cards, and one lady was promotion aprons … it was difficult to continually say no, so i in the end bought a Guilin book with a 10 set of post cards for just 40 Rmb…what a bargain 40 divided by 7.5 … I paid ~ $5.33CAD … very inexpensive prices … your buck goes very far in China …
It was so wonderful cruising down the Li River .
Mulong Lake Park–A nice Pagoda in Guilin during an evening cruise!.. the hills were so splendid… this was the best part of touring in Guilin, the cruise trip along the Li River … so peaceful, and fascinating… I took photos of women washing their clothes on the rocks along the Li River, women (with kids on their backs) reaching out with long sticks with nets at the end to capture fish, NO, to catch $$ from tourists passing by on the many ships travelling the Li River … the scenery along the Li River will eternally stay a highlight of Guilin; I can’t clarify it, but the sensation is incredible. Next time I will stay for no less than a week!!!
At night I took a cruise down the Mulong Lake, right in Guilin … one Pagoda stood out and was gaily lit; we passed through countless bridges that Guilin lights up specially for the cruises at nighttime.
I would recommend Li River Cruise to anyone who visits Guilin.

The Incredible Striped Bass Fishing Experience
Striped bass fishing is one of the many types of bass fishing that has become very popular in the last ten or fifteen years. Fishing for these incredible animals is both challenging and fun. Being that there is such a broad realm within the bass community, striped bass is in a category all its own.
Today we are going to discuss how you can get involved with this incredible opportunity and join the many enthusiastic anglers that have already been bitten by the striper bug.
Striped bass are most often called stripers and also rockfish because they can be frequently found in rocky areas that offer shelter and protection. There are several ways to catch these fish such as by casting, trolling and even bottom fishing. In most areas, stripers do not reproduce well requiring extensive game management and stocking. The best months for catching this game fish are late March through May. This is because striped bass begin to feed aggressively as they prepare to spawn.
Bait – Finding and using the right type of bait for stripers is the same as any other type of fishing. The more experienced striped bass fisherman will spend a lot of time looking for schools of baitfish. They know that when they find these schools that the fish will be very close by.
Casting or trolling with large plugs or fishing live bait under a bobber are all techniques that I have used when fishing for these animals. Chicken liver, normally a great bait for catfishing, has been a proven good choice as natural bait. The most effective artificial baits, in my experience, are spoons and rattle traps. Live shad are the bait of choice when using live bait because they are the primary forage food for stripers.
Tackle – You need to know the difference types of tackle used for striped bass fishing just as you need to know the types of tackle used for any other game fish. Fishermen use a variety of tackle and methods to catch these hard fighting fish. Some who enjoy the fight may use light tackle while others who prefer to put food on the table will use heavier tackle. In my case, I usually go with the heavier tackle because these bass are some of the biggest game fish out there reaching weights of over seventy pounds.
When it comes to bass fishing, striped bass fishing is one of the favorites for many and you can also find yourself hooked by this incredible experience. There is just no way to describe the exhilaration you feel when you hook into one of these monsters and you discover that you are in for the fight of your life.
